We’ve been to Paris twice as a family, a few years apart—and both times, it was for just about a day.

Once, we took the train into Paris on our way to another destination. The other time, we flew in, again en route somewhere else. Two quick visits, two very different trips, but the same takeaway both times: Paris always leaves you wanting more.

Even with limited time, Paris has a way of making an impression. Here’s how we made the most of a short stay—and how you can too if Paris is a stop along the way, not the final destination.
Morning: Paris Classics & Garden Time
Notre-Dame & Morning Walks
We started our day with a walk to Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris. When we went to Parisin 2021, it was closed due to the fire. But we took this picture outside. Even without going inside, seeing it up close is powerful. It’s one of those places that immediately reminds you where you are.

Then, we went back in 2024, just a few days after it had reopened and this time we got to go inside.

From there, you can make your way to the Luxembourg Gardens, one of the most beautiful green spaces in the city. Especially when traveling with kids (you can let them run around while you relax).
A Very Parisian Breakfast
No Paris morning is complete without a café stop. We had breakfast at Café de Flore—croissants, coffee, and fresh juice. Fun fact: Café de Flore is one of the oldest and most prestigious cafés in Paris, and you can really feel that history while sitting there.

Late Morning: Eiffel Tower & the Seine
Eiffel Tower
By mid-morning, we headed to the Eiffel Tower. Booking in advance is key if you plan to go up, but even just taking family photos from the ground is special. Seeing it in person never gets old. If you can avoid bringing a stroller, it’ll make your entrance way smoother.

Seine River Cruise
We boarded a one-hour Seine River cruise with Bateaux Parisiens. This was one of the best ways to see Paris quickly—especially with limited time. Floating past landmarks gives you a whole new appreciation for the city and offers a much-needed break from walking.

Midday: Lunch & Vintage Finds
Lunch at a Classic Bistro
We had lunch at Le Comptoir du Relais, a beloved Parisian bistro known for its consistently great food. It was the perfect refuel before the afternoon rush.
Thrifting in Paris
After lunch, if you’re in the mood for thrifting, head to Thanx God I’m a V.I.P. on Rue de Lancry. If you love thrifting, this stop is a must. The shop offers a curated selection of luxury vintage fashion, all beautifully preserved—and often at a fraction of the original price.
Afternoon: Iconic Views & Grand Avenues
Louvre (From the Outside)
We stopped by the Louvre Museum. With limited time, we opted to take photos outside rather than wait in long lines—but even that is worth it. The glass pyramid alone is iconic.

Arc de Triomphe
Our second visit there, we went to the Arc de Triomphe and climbed to the top. The views are stunning and give you a true sense of Paris’s grand layout.

Champs-Élysées
We ended the day with a walk along the Champs-Élysées, one of the most famous avenues in the world. Whether you’re shopping, people-watching, or just taking it all in, it’s a fitting way to wrap up a whirlwind Paris day. Also, stop by Pierre Hermes and get some macaroons. They were delicious.

Where We Stayed
We stayed at Sully Hôtel, located at 48 rue Saint-Antoine in the 4th arrondissement. It’s a fantastic base for a short stay—central, walkable, and close to many of Paris’s most iconic sights. It’s an old building, so it doesn’t have an elevator (something to keep in mind if you have a lot of luggage). Another time we stayed at Voco Paris – Porte de Clicky. It’s a little outside of Paris (like 20 mins uber ride), but it was a very nice hotel. It was shockingly so spacious.
Final Thoughts
Even though we’ve only spent short visits in Paris, the city has left a lasting impression. Paris is layered, elegant, and endlessly interesting, even when you only have a day.

If Paris is a stop on the way to somewhere else, don’t skip it. With a little planning, you can experience the highlights, enjoy great food, and still leave dreaming about your next, longer stay.
Yours,
